Most
of your Windows applications temporarily create several files on your
hard drive when they are running. These files are supposed
to be removed and the space recovered after these programs are closed.
Often, however, they don’t because of a program error, sloppy
architecture, your system is reset or not shut down properly, or
another application locks up or crashes. It is important to know
that any file that is left behind in this manner will
remain on your system unless you manually search for it and remove
it. Over time, these junk and obsolete files can accumulate
to megabytes of wasted hard drive space, as well as
turn into potential error-producing cross-linked drive
references.

Ensembles for
Windows targets these
specific types of files which are missed by common disk
utilities, "uninstaller", "Defrag",
"Scandisk", and other standard "cleaner" type
programs.
As well as wasting space on your system, obsolete and junk files can
produce very hazardous results if not properly cleaned from your drive
on a periodic basis.
The symptoms that these garbage files can produce include:
-
Cross-linked drive references
-
Lost network and Internet
connections.
-
Sudden application lock ups.
-
Lost data
-
General Protection Faults (GPF’s)
or Fatal Errors in your applications.
-
Virus like behavior
-
Mysterious Reboots
-
Out of Memory Errors

Finds the junk
that other programs miss.
This tool has the ability to scour your system with a virtual
"fine-toothed comb" looking for files that shouldn't be there.
There are numerous options that enable you to adjust the
"stringency" of the search as well. Remember - disk
defragmenters, scandisk-type programs, and "uninstallers" miss
the files that this tool finds! As well as a list of file-types to
look for on your system, this tool can utilize the following options to
rid your system of even more space-wasting debris:
- Find unused files in the
Windows "Temp" folder
-- a haven for orphaned and junk files!
- Find
"zero-length" files
-- Zero length files plague many systems: although they contain no
data, they occupy space in your directory structures and are a
leading cause of crossed allocation areas on your hard drive.

Safety
Many new users are suspicious of
tools like Ensembles for Windows Junk file remover because they don't
want to do any damage to their system. We've taken this into
consideration and offer the following options to ensure that you don't
cause any harm to your system - regardless of your experience level!

- Skip
"Read-Only" files
-- This options allows you to skip-over files on your system that
have been tagged as "read-only". Read-only files are
not meant to be removed or written to.
- Skip files that are
currently in-use by their associated application
-- This option will let you skip any file that is being
"used" during the scan. This is a great safety
feature, as removing a file that is used by another program almost
always leads to a crash!
Total Removal
Control
Once you've found files on your
system that you'd like to get rid of we provide you with several
flexible options:
- "QuickView"
the file:
Windows comes with a handy utility called QuickView that allows you
to view the contents of virtually any file on your system. If
you have any doubts about whether a file should be removed view it
using this option in order to make a proper final decision.
- Access file properties:
In order to look "under the hood" of any file found, this
tool provides you with the ability to access a file's standard
Windows property information.
- Move files to the
recycle bin:
When you move files to the Windows recycle bin you can easily
restore them back to wherever they came from. This is a great
way to remove files if you want to be extra cautious.
- Move files to a specific
location:
If you don't necessarily want to permanently delete the files that
are found you can simply move them to a separate folder (maybe a
backup disk or other removable media). This gives you
the ability to retain any files that are removed should you feel you
may need them in the future.
- Permanently delete
files: Of
course, you can choose to permanently delete files that are found
freeing the space that they occupy immediately!
- Zip and delete files:
If
you want to be extremely cautious this is a great
way to remove files . It automatically creates a Zipped file so that
you can save before deleting the files.

Schedule these
actions to take place automatically!
Using Ensembles
for Windows you can schedule all of these actions to take place
on your system on any schedule you determine (e.g. Once a week, every
Monday at 5:00, etc). You can even have these actions happen
instantly whenever you startup your system!
